Americanism

The B.P.O. Elks is a distinctively American organization – one of our many goals is to quicken the spirit of American patriotism in our Community and in our Youth, and to stimulate an awareness — a genuine feeling of pride and respect toward our great Nation, its history, and our Flag.  Our Lodge is involved in many patriotic and civic events throughout the year. Events such as flag presentations, activities with Veterans, Active Duty Military, First Responders, patriotic youth organizations, events involving local government officials or agencies.

Flag Day Ceremony

The Palm Coast Elks #2709 hosts an annual Flag Day observance and celebration.  In July of 1908, the Elks’ Grand Lodge provided for the annual nationwide observance of Flag Day on the 14th of June each year.  June 14 was officially established as Flag Day in 1916 by a proclamation by President Woodrow Wilson although Flag Day was not a national observance until 1949—President Harry Truman, himself an Elks member, was inspired through his Lodge in Independence Missouri, to sign an act of Congress that dedicated June 14 to the symbol of our country.

9/11 Memorial Ceremony

Palm Coast Elks #2709 annually commemorates the September 11, 2001 attacks on our country and pays tribute to the first responders who worked tirelessly that morning in 2001. The public ceremony is conducted at our Lodge's 9/11 Memorial Monument.
