  1. Tens of Millions of America’s finest Citizens and leaders have been Proud Members of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, and more continue to join our ranks every day.
  2.  There are over 2,100 Elks Lodges in the United States today.
  3. Our Benevolent Organization was founded on the principles of Charity, Fidelity, Justice and Brotherly Love, on February 16, 1868.
  4. In October, 1918, after WWI, Elks built a 700-bed Reconstruction Hospital on Parker Hill in Boston and gave it to the federal government. This hospital was the forerunner of the VA Medical Centers that exist today.
  5. The Elks National Home, lovingly referred to as the “Crown Jewel of Elkdom,” was founded in 1903, and this “Elks-only” retirement village stretches across the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Bedford, Virginia.
  6. Elks Hoop Shoot® Free-Throw Program provides friendly sports competition for over 3 million boys and girls every year, and was adopted by the Elks in 1970.
  7. Elks gave $17 million to deserving programs and Scholarship Students just this past year, more than any other organization in the world.
  8. Elks National Foundation received more than $6 Million in charitable contributions and bequests this past year alone.
  9. The Elks Veterans Memorial Building is both a reverent monument and an architectural landmark in Chicago. It was dedicated on July 14, 1926, to the memory of Elks and all the men and women who sacrificed their lives in WWI. It was rededicated on September 8, 1946, to the members of our Armed Forces who perished in WWII. It was also rededicated on July 4, 1976, during America's Bicentennial celebration, to honor those who died for our freedom in Korea and Vietnam. As “the Price of Liberty is Eternal Vigilance,” within the hallowed walls of this majestic edifice, the Elks will continue to honor America’s Heroes who have given their lives in its defense.
